Since its setup in 1999, GHET has moved on from strength to strength and through much determination and hard work from the management group and supporters, many goals were achieved. Our first main concern was to highlight the poor condition of the Southern Necropolis\Gatehouse in Caledonia Road, designed by Charles Wilson a prominent Glasgow architect, the result of which was the building being made wind/water tight and the damaged oriel window made secure. Other more recent successes include the newly designed tombstone marking the grave of Alexander "Greek" Thomson, the preparation of the new publication "City Of The Dead..a guide to Glasgow`s Southern Necropolis" and the setting out of a "marked" heritage trail through the cemetery. The areas of heritage and the environment are aspects that we soon realised warranted being taken further and for this reason we have widened our scope and adopted the title "South Glasgow Heritage Environment Trust"

Our services will include research facilities, historical performances, active encouragement and participation from local communities and overseas visitors, historical tours, organisation of exhibitions and educational input to primary/secondary schools.

SGHET welcomes interest and contributions from groups and individuals in the Southside, and we plan to have an Open Day (details to be confirmed) at our new office located in Queen`s Park Parish Church.
